Earth Day 2009: Do environmental rights= human rights?

From www.witness.org We’d love to hear from you – please respond in the comments section or via video response. What images come to mind when you think of human rights? Pictures of torture, unjust detention, police brutality, political persecution? Or do you think about climate change? What about when you think of the environmental movement? Do you picture oceans, forests, whales, butterflies? Or do you think about people? (read more here hub.witness.org Although the environmental and human rights movements are sometimes perceived as two different things – especially in many developed countries like the United States – in much of the world they are closely intertwined. In March 2009, two WITNESS staff members Kelly Matheson and Priscila Neri traveled to the annual meeting of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide to speak activists from around the world about this connection. We asked them: do environmental rights = human rights? The responses we heard were so illuminating that we decided to make this short video about what they told us. Share your thoughts with us too!

Yes, environmental rights = human rights
+ all that is going on in Iraq, Darfur, etc. is directly involved with oil.

Definitely think about equality of life and the effects of the Wests greedy consumptive lifestyle and those who experience the consequence in terms of waste or loss of land or damage to land, flooding, etc., etc., i believe it will not be until we experience this for ourselves that our attitude will dramatically change in the West sadly, there’s still hundreds of people shop shop shopping
